You're a Star

Another layout I made using the You Rock paper pack is inspired by the one pictured on page 20 of the new Close To My Heart Idea book.

I've included instructions for you here so you can make one of your own using these products or something similar from your own supplies.

First I started with a whole 12x12 sheet of the green background paper.

I cut a piece of the patterned design 12 X 4

Next I used stamps to dress up the background paper - stamping only over the 8" of the paper that would show and filling in the top half diagnonally. I used the Star Power stamp set and started with Olive ink.

Then I stamped a few stars from the Just Be You stamp set (which comes with the You Rock Workshop on the Go package). I did these stars in Goldrush ink.

I then stamped a layer of flourishes (from Star Power) with white daisy ink. This ink you have to let dry for a while, and also clean the stamps with soap and water rather than the normal stamp cleaning pad. The white daisy ink is pigment based and goes on more like paint. This gives a nice white coverage even over a dark background. In the example layout, they used flourished cut from Top Coats (acrylic overlays).

Now I taped down the 12 x 4 patterned paper on the right side of the layout.

To frame the whole layout, add stitching around the border. You could do this using a sewing machine, or needle and thread. But I stamped on faux stitching. In the example page, they used the Togetherness stamp set. I used the Placement Guide stamp set and outdoor denim ink.

Now I cut a 1/2 inch x 12 inch strip of Outdoor Denim paper and taped that to the paper next to the patterned paper. You could also use ribbon here if you have it.

To frame the photo, I used a 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 piece of the orange design from the paper pack on top of a 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 piece of the blue design from the paper pack. The photo is 5 x 7.

For the final embellishments, I stamped the words "You're a Star" on a piece of cardstock, used my corner rounder on two of the corners to make it look like a tab, and added some more faux stiching using the Placement Guide stamp set. I taped this to the bottom left edge of the photo mat.

I cut a yellow star from a piece of the leftover paper and taped this to the top right of the photo mat.

Using the paper piercer, I punched small holes at the top and bottom of the Outdoor Denimn strip and added 2 White Daisy bigger brads.

Finally, using some leftover sticker letters (from the Game On Stickease) I added my nephew's name and the year.

I am going to use this one page layout for one page in a calendar.

Everyday Celebrations

I made all 16 of these cards with Close To My Heart's Everyday Celebration Card Kit. The kit includes everything I needed: card bases and envelopes, the papers, a stamp set, inks, brads, ribbons, embellishments and an instruction guide. The kit sells for $39.95, but until the end of September, you can earn one FREE with a minimum purchase of $60 in stamps.

The best part is that I can use the stamp set and instruction over and over again to make more cards using different papers.

If you would like to get one of these kits, contact me.

Flip Flaps

One of the great products from Close To My Heart is Flip Flaps. What are Flip Flaps? They are an inexpensive way to make your pages interactive and add additional photos and journaling to your pages.

Flip Flaps come in a package of 15 4x6 protectors for only $3.95!

Here is a great video tutorial made by one of my fellow close to my heart consultants, Tresa Black, that shows how these can be used in your layouts.

If you would like to order some of these, you can contact me or shop online at my website.
